Now, the Lady Dragons turn their focus to the postseason. Clinton will open District 4-AAA Tournament play Thursday night at Anderson County High School, facing the winner of the Gibbs-Union County play-in game earlier this week.
Clinton (27-2) enters as the tournament’s top seed and has already secured a berth in the upcoming Region 2-AAA Tournament. The Lady Dragons, however, have their sights set on more hardware.
A victory in Thursday’s semifinal, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at ACHS, would guarantee a home game in the opening round of regional play.
Clinton coach Alicia Daugherty said her veteran squad understands the challenge ahead but believes the team’s identity has carried it this far.
“We’re actually focused solely on us,” Daugherty said. “This year, we set some goals and we asked the girls what they wanted to do.
“If we keep doing what we do and continue to be who we are, then I think we can make a big push in the postseason.”
The Lady Dragons closed the regular season with back-to-back victories Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday, Clinton defeated Powell 52-33 at Jeff Hunter Gymnasium.
Addi Gamble scored 19 points while adding eight rebounds, six steals and three assists. Josie Moody recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She also had four steals and an assist against the Lady Panthers.
Clinton capped the regular season Friday with a 59-41 win over Kingston at Don W. Lockard Gymnasium.
Gamble filled the stat sheet with 22 points, eight rebounds, seven steals, six assists and four blocks against the Lady Jackets. Lanee Carmichael added 14 points and five rebounds, while Caylin Taylor contributed 11 points, three assists and two steals. Moody finished with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
