Poetry contest for America at 250
The Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge invites students from ages 11 through 18 to submit entries for its first-ever poetry contest.
The contest will be open through March 31. Entries must reflect the theme “America at 250: From Sea to Shining Sea.” Winning poems will be displayed on the museum’s website.
Awards will be given in two age groups.
For ages 11 through 14, first place will be a $50 Visa gift card. Second place will be a $25 museum store gift certificate.
For ages 15 through 18, first place will be a $100 Visa gift card, and second Place will be a $50 Visa gift card.
Poems may be in any poetic form, but must be in English, no longer than one page in length, written without artificial intelligence and lacking in language that is vulgar, offensive or otherwise inappropriate.
The contest permits only one entry per applicant. Feedback from teachers, librarians, or family members is allowed, but the student must be the sole author of the poem.
Winners will be notified via email by April 15 and announced on the Children’s Museum’s website and social media channels. Due to the volume of entries, only selected winners will be notified.
The deadline for all entries is March 31 at 11:59 p.m.
Consolidated Nuclear Security is sponsoring the museum’s America 250 celebration.
