Clinton club falls, but progress evident
Despite seeing his team suffer its first loss of the 2026 season, Clinton Football Club Coach Jake McMurray wasn’t all that disappointed.
“Unfortunately, we got our first loss,” McMurray said after his side fell to Gibbs 4-1 in its lone match last week. “But I was very happy with the way we played.
“We controlled possession. We had the ball 53 percent of the time. We had a goal disallowed on an indirect free kick because they said nobody touched the ball before it went into the goal.”
Clinton got its lone goal from Juan Zorro, and Jordan Cuevas had a goal disallowed. Gibbs also scored on an offsides play.
“We’re playing much better than we did last year, and this was a very even match,” McMurray said. “We were just unlucky. We passed the ball well. We had 118 passes in the game.
“The loss hurts, but I’m more concerned with development right now.”
