Records fall at Farragut
When Anderson County High School track and field Coach Harrison Calhoun took his teams to West Knox County for the Farragut Invitational, he viewed it as a meet where his athletes could earn a few more opportunities to improve their marks.
“This ... was a high-level meet and was well-run and very competitive,” Calhoun said after his athletes posted solid marks Saturday at Farragut High School.
“I looked at this as an opportunity meet for our kids.” he said. “It was a chance for our kids to get their times down if they wanted to, or a chance to try something new. We had some kids get some [personal records], and we did what we went over there to do.”
The Lady Mavericks had three athletes post Top 10 finishes in the 800-meter run. Ava Moody was second with a time of 2 minutes, 19.17 seconds. Rachel Garbes was sixth at 3:05.00, and Lily Franklin took 10th in 3:22.88.
Mattie Lively finished 10th in the javelin with a throw of 69 feet, 4 inches, and also placed 10th in the shot put at 24-8.25.
For the Mavericks, Luke Dark won the shot put with a throw of 63-3, breaking his own school record.
Distance specialist Cameron Hardy won the 3,200-meter run, breaking the 10-minute mark as he crossed the finish line in 9:50.35.
Hardy was one of three Anderson County boys to crack the Top 10 in the event. Rylan Vanlandingham was fifth in 11:52.54, while Tanner Warman took sixth in 11:56.71.
Joseph Hall won the long jump with a leap of 22-2.25 and finished sixth in the 200-meter dash in 22.97 seconds. James Ayden Cole was fourth in the 100-meter dash in 11.51 seconds and fifth in the 200 in 22.97. Lane LaRue was eighth in the 100 with a time of 11.71.
Benson Skidmore finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:16.41.
The Mavericks and Lady Mavericks will return to action this weekend at the Vol Classic at the University of Tennessee’s Tom Black Track in Knoxville.
