Paynter will be honored during the Bow Tie Event and Fundraiser on Nov. 14, 2026, at the Oak Ridge Conference Center.
“There’s so much more than meets the eye when talking about George,” event chair Wendie Aurin said.
“He’s a quiet leader with a big impact on others and gives back to the community in ways that reflect the spirit of this award.”
The Bow Tie Award, established in 2013, honors the late Bill Wilcox and recognizes individuals who demonstrate strong community values, active service and a positive impact across East Tennessee.
Past recipients include Ray Smith, the late Tim Myrick, Cande Seay, Bear Stephenson, the late Tom Row, Kathy Stimpson (posthumously), the late Louise Mixon, Bill Capshaw, Tom Beehan, Jim Dodson, Pat Postma, Barry Stephenson, Jim Michel and Sheila Michel, and Jo Bruce.
Proceeds from the event support ADFAC’s operations and long-term stability.
Since its inception, a portion of funds raised has been directed to the Bow Tie Endowment through the East Tennessee Foundation.
Sponsorship information is available by contacting ADFAC.
Tickets are expected to go on sale in September.
Founded in the mid-1980s, ADFAC began as a local ecumenical effort to assist families in need.
The organization now operates a range of programs and responds to more than 7,000 requests for assistance annually.
