Brooks delivers at plate, earns win on mound
Will Brooks delivered a standout week for the Clinton High School baseball team, producing at the plate and earning a win on the mound as the Dragons went 1-3.
Clinton opened the week by splitting a District 4-AAA series against Union County.
In the series opener on Monday, April 13, the Patriots prevailed 13-9 in a slugfest in Maynardville.
Brooks collected four hits in the loss. He also had an RBI and scored a run. Jackson Webb doubled, scored and drove in two runs. Camden Britton singled and scored twice.
JP Robbins doubled, scored and drove in a run, while Jake Rittenberry went 2-for-3. He doubled, had two RBIs and scored twice.
In Game 2 of the series, the Dragons notched a 3-2 victory over the Patriots at Jaycee Park.
Brooks earned the win on the mound as he surrendered two runs, 10 hits and one walk over 6 2/3 innings before giving way to Jayden Cuevas, who picked up the save by recording the final out.
Webb doubled and drove in all three of Clinton’s runs in the game, while Aden Golden singled and scored.
On Thursday, the Dragons dropped an 8-1 decision at Karns.
Golden went 1-for-3 with a double, while Rittenberry collected two hits. Brooks walked and scored. Peyton Douglas singled and drove in a run.
On Saturday, the Dragons fell to the Beavers 9-1 at home. Douglas had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Britton also had two hits, including a double.
