Adoptions, services highlight pet expo
Paws for a Cause is Saturday
Besides more than 60 vendors and lots of dogs on leashes, this Saturday’s annual Paws for a Cause Pet Expo will feature plenty of pets available for adoption.
Area pet rescues will feature animals that are ready and waiting for new homes during the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carden Farm Dog Park, at 410 Riverview Drive in South Clinton.
More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the event, and those participating with pets for adoption will include the Anderson County Animal Shelter, Norris Animal Shelter, Labrador Retriever Rescue of East Tennessee, McMinn Regional Humane Society, Knox Vintage Pet Project and more.
Also available will be low-cost vaccinations and microchips for the canine visitors.
Vendors will represent all kinds of pet services and merchandise, including pet care and training.
Every dollar raised goes directly to helping animals in the Anderson County community, through pet-care assistance, education, a pet-food pantry, and other efforts.
Besides the city of Clinton, event sponsors include the Anderson County Animal Rescue Foundation and the Humane Society, Tennessee Valley.
The Carden Farm Dog Park, operated by the city of Clinton, opened in November 2023 off Carden Farm Road, on land along the Clinch River.
The park sits on a 17-acre tract the city got in a trade from TVA. A common area at the entrance gives access to separate areas for large and small dogs.
It includes fenced areas of about three acres for large dogs and two acres for small dogs. A road was built leading into the paved parking lot at the park’s entrance.
The three-acre section, to the right from the entrance, will be the site of Saturday’s event.
There are water fountains for people and dogs just outside the entrance, along with a water faucet people can use to wash their dogs if they get too dirty in the park.
Each of the doggie areas has a small shelter with benches and sheet-metal roofs for shade, and some trees were planted for natural shade.
