CFC attack finds another gear
Clinton Football Club closed out the regular-season portion of its schedule with a pair of victories last week.
The soccer team outlasted Knoxville’s First Apostolic 7-4 Thursday on the road.
Samuel McMurray had a hat trick for Clinton FC, while Jordan Cuevas and Juan Zorro each added two goals in the regular-season finale.
Clinton led the league in scoring as it found the back of the net 57 times in 10 games this season. CFC finished the 2026 regular season 8-2 and won six league matches.
Clinton’s only losses came to regular-season champion Oak Ridge and league runner-up Gibbs.
“We’ve been a goal-scoring machine,” CFC Coach Jake McMurray said. “We led the division with 57 goals.
“Our offense and our defense have been good. For the goals that we give up, I’ll take the blame for that because of the wide-open style that I like to play. It’s not a reflection of our defense. Our defense has done a great job.”
On April 27, CFC shut out Bearden 9-0.
Samuel McMurray scored two goals and had three assists in the match, while Fabio Espinosa scored twice. Cuevas added a goal and an assist.
Zorro, Lucas Metchikoff, Tucker Nielsen and Evan Short also found the back of the net for Clinton.
Spencer Smith, who combined with Tadeo Hernandez to record a clean sheet in goal, also contributed offensively with an assist.
