Letter to the Editor

Dear Anderson County,

Now that the May local primaries are behind us, I want to encourage Republican voters in Anderson County to begin looking ahead to the Aug. 6 [state] Republican Primary.

Many people follow presidential, gubernatorial, and county races closely, but some of the most-important decisions in our party are made in lower-turnout elections. These races often determine who represents grassroots Republicans inside the party structure, who helps protect the Republican platform, and who makes sure local voices are heard.

That matters.

The state executive committee is not a flashy office, but it is an important one. Members help guide the direction of the Tennessee Republican Party, represent Republicans in their Senate district, and have a responsibility to remain connected to the voters they serve.

As Republicans, we should expect our party leadership to be accessible, accountable, and grounded in the principles that brought many of us into the conservative movement in the first place: limited government, personal responsibility, fiscal discipline, strong families, parental rights, public safety, election integrity, and respect for the Constitution.

Low-turnout elections can be decided by a small number of voters. That means every informed voter matters. It also means candidates should not take voters for granted. They should be willing to show up, answer questions, listen, and earn support.

I encourage every Republican voter in Anderson County to learn who is on the August ballot, ask candidates where they stand, and make a plan to vote. Our party is strongest when grassroots Republicans are engaged, informed, and involved.

August may seem far away, but it will be here quickly. Let’s treat this election like it matters — because it does.
