Tyler leads area standouts at sectional meet
Area athletes posted a number of strong performances at the TMSAA Region 2 sectional championships on May 2 at Oak Ridge High School, earning event titles and top finishes across the track and field venue.
For Norris, eighth-grader Ella Tyler led the way for the Lady Senators, winning the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 30.20 seconds and capturing the 1,600-meter run in 5:43.87. She later duplicated that performance at the TMSAA state championships, winning state titles in both events.
The Norris boys 4x100 relay team finished seventh in 51.73 seconds.
Clinton Middle School also had several strong performances. Levi Braden won the long jump and finished third in the 100-meter dash, while Uriyah Pickett placed third in the shot put.
Robertsville had several athletes post high marks at the meet.
For the Lady Rams, Jaylei Thompson finished third in the shot put with a mark of 34 feet, 6.25 inches. Annie Kuhns placed sixth in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 1:04.86. She also took seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:02.28.
The Lady Rams’ 4x400-meter relay team finished eighth in 4:53.07.
For the Robertsville boys, Malik Teasley finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 115-5. He also claimed fifth in the shot put at 35-8.5. William Cavander was seventh in the shot put with an effort of 32-7.
The Rams posted third-place relay finishes in the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800. Bentley Pettus finished fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.30 seconds and fifth in the 200 in 25.53. Chase Bolin was fifth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:16.56.
Jefferson Middle School’s girls won the 4x200-meter relay. The Lady Eagles finished second in the 4x100 relay and fourth in both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
Allison Rodabaugh won the high jump with a leap of 5-0 and took fifth in the long jump at 13-2.
Natalie Shanefield finished sixth in both the discus (72-10) and shot put (29-2).
In the girls 1,600, Ava Hartye was seventh in 6:01.58 and Reese Tiller placed eighth in 6:08.53.
For the Eagles, Connor Morgan captured the boys 1,600-meter title in 4:56.76 and finished fourth in the 800 in 2:14.40.
Jefferson also won the boys 4x400 relay and took second in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
The Eagles finished eighth in the 4x800.
