Jo Williams
Williams brings years of proven experience, steady leadership, and a deep commitment to the students, families, teachers, and staff of Anderson County Schools, she said.
Throughout her time on the board, she has served as chairman and currently serves as vice-chairman. She is a Master School Board Member, an All-Tennessee School Board member, and a Tennessee School Board Association Ambassador.
Williams said she believes experience is vital when making decisions that affect children, classrooms, school safety, academic progress, and the future of the entire school system.
Her background in policy development and board leadership has helped her understand the importance of thoughtful, informed decision-making.
“Serving on the school board is not just about attending meetings,” Williams said. “It is about listening, learning, showing up, and making decisions with the best interests of our children at heart. Experience matters because our students deserve leaders who understand the responsibility that comes with every vote and every decision.”
Williams said her heart for service comes from her sincere care for the children of Anderson County. She has made it a priority to be present for students and schools throughout the district, attending awards programs, field days, open houses, sporting events, graduations, and many other school events.
“I represent not only District 1, but the entire school system,” Williams said. “I have not missed a graduation exercise since I came on the board, and that is because these students matter to me. I want them to know they are seen, supported, and cared for.”
During Williams’ time of service, Anderson County Schools has continued to make meaningful academic progress.
Schools across the system are growing as STEM and STEAM schools, giving students more opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.
In addition, the new state-of-the-art Claxton Elementary School is expected to open by the beginning of the school year in August 2027.
Williams said she remains committed to providing steady, experienced leadership focused on what matters most: the children. She believes every student deserves a safe, supportive, and encouraging school environment where they can learn, grow, and prepare for a successful future.
“Our kids are the reason I serve,” Williams said. “Every decision I make is guided by what is best for them. I care deeply about their future, and I will continue working hard to support the students, families, educators, and schools of Anderson County.”
Voters in District 1 will be able to vote for Jo Williams in the August general election. She will be listed as an independent on the ballot.
