Over 450 families fed at Lake City Elementary School

An event at Lake City Elementary School gave over 450 families food.

The Anderson County Schools Family Resource Center held the event at the school recently. Compassion Ministries and Second Harvest Food Bank provided more than $100,000 in food with close to $250 per family. Over 100 volunteers, including Lake City Middle School football players, cheerleaders and staff assisted with traffic, paperwork and food distribution.

The Anderson County Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution honoring Family Resource Center Director Jennifer Goins and her staff and volunteers for the event and other efforts at its July 9 meeting. They declared the next day, July 10 as Family Resource Center appreciation Day.

Goins accepted the resolution during the meeting and thanked the board for recognizing the work of everyone involved.
