Wildcats tackle three-course test
Oak Ridge High School’s golf teams had a busy week on the links, competing in three matches with mixed results for the Wildcats and some memorable rounds for the Lady Wildcats.
On Monday, Aug. 24, Oak Ridge played at Beaver Brook Golf & Country Club in North Knox County, and finished third in a match against host Knoxville Halls and Farragut.
The Red Devils posted a team score of 149, followed by the Admirals at 153 and the Wildcats at 154.
Britten Luttrell led Oak Ridge with a 35 on the par-34 front nine.
Kaleb Jackson shot 39, while Jonah Wolfe and Braxton Pemberton each carded a 40.
Titus Petrucci rounded out Oak Ridge’s lineup with a 41.
On Tuesday, Aug. 25, Oak Ridge hosted Anderson County and Knoxville West at Oak Ridge Country Club, where the Wildcats finished second in a tightly contested match.
The Mavericks won with a team score of 155, one stroke ahead of Oak Ridge at 156. The Rebels finished another stroke back at 157.
On the par-36 front nine, Luttrell again paced the Wildcats, shooting a 38. Jackson and Petrucci each carded a 39, while Wolfe and Pemberton both finished with a 40.
In their final match of the week, the Wildcats traveled to Three Ridges Golf Course for a match hosted by Powell’s First Baptist Academy.
The host Eagles won with a team score of 144, followed by Grace Christian Academy at 156 and Oak Ridge at 170.
Luttrell provided another strong round, shooting an even-par 35. Wolfe carded a 43, Jackson shot 47 and Pemberton finished with a 48.
Lady Wildcats shine: Oak Ridge’s girls finished second Monday at Beaver Brook. Farragut won with a team score of 80, followed by the Lady Wildcats at 104 and Halls at 108.
Marissa Patch shot a 51 for Oak Ridge, while Brynn Green carded a 53.
Green followed that performance by recording her lowest round as a high school golfer Tuesday at Oak Ridge Country Club, shooting a 46.
At Three Ridges on Thursday, Patch provided a dramatic finish to the week. She carded a 46 and closed her round with three consecutive birdies.
