Unbeaten Hawks soar
A perfect record remained intact for the Clinton Middle School football team last week.
The Hawks improved to 3-0 with a 36-0 shutout of Horace Maynard on Tuesday, Aug. 25, in Maynardville.
“Our defense played another great game,” Clinton Coach Eric Woodard said. “We started the game with a safety, and that always sets the tone.”
Luke Whitt had an interception, while Christian Frazier recovered a fumble as the Hawks kept Maynard off the scoreboard.
Frazier also made an impact on special teams, returning a kickoff for a touchdown.
Quarterback Jaxon Sherwood, a seventh grader, got the start for Clinton, and threw a touchdown pass to Westin Glandon. He also connected with Jacob Deel on a 59-yard scoring strike.
Kooper Bayliss broke loose for a 51-yard touchdown run, and Rylan Boshears, a newcomer to the team, put the finishing touch on the Hawks’ victory with a 92-yard touchdown run.
Clinton will look to keep its perfect start alive Thursday night when it hosts LaFollette for its annual homecoming game.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Dragon Stadium.
“We’re looking forward to homecoming, and we hope we can get all the alumni back for that one,” Woodard said.
