Clinton sweeps three matches

“Oh, we had a good week. We’ve gotten better — yeah, we’ve gotten better,” Johnson said after Clinton won three matches without dropping a set, improving to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in district play.
“We started Monday with South-Doyle at home, and then we had Gibbs (Tuesday, Sept. 1) and then Halls (Thursday, Sept. 3),” Johnson said. “We just executed very well this week. We made it look easy at times.”
Clinton capped its perfect week by sweeping district foe Halls 25-13, 25-15, 25-8.
Senior outside hitter Maggie Moke finished with six kills, while senior setter/opposite Jallie Rodd served six aces and added 11 assists and six digs. Sophomore setter/opposite Alaina Staudenmaier had five aces, four assists, four kills and six digs.
Freshman middle blocker Brooke Pebley had four kills, and sophomore outside hitter Anslee Carmichael compiled four aces, two kills and nine digs. Junior defensive specialist Maggie Turbyville had eight digs, while senior libero Hanna Harvey recorded an ace, six digs and two assists. Senior middle blocker Parker McGhee contributed four kills, four blocks and an ace.
The Lady Dragons also dominated district rival Gibbs, winning 25-13, 25-16, 25-18.
McGhee hammered 14 kills and added seven digs and four blocks. Rodd stuffed the stat sheet with five aces, six kills, 19 assists and 19 digs, while Moke had three aces, five kills, three blocks and 10 digs.
Harvey recorded 18 passes and 15 digs, while Turbyville had 10 passes and seven digs. Carmichael knocked down seven kills and added seven digs. Staudenmaier served two aces to go with 11 assists, five kills and four digs, while Pebley had three blocks, one kill and one dig.
“Jallie Rodd is as quick as a cat, and she’s playing hard,” Johnson said. “She runs balls down that most people can’t get. Parker McGhee’s our senior middle. When we get her the ball, it’s a beautiful thing. Maggie Moke, she’s getting stronger.”
Johnson also likes the progress she is seeing from Pebley.
“I’ve got a freshman middle hitter who just gets better every game,” Johnson said. “She’s just learning and learning, and, you know, she wasn’t ready in the beginning, but she’s coming on and making a difference.”
