Wildcats pounce early, drop Lenoir City 56-7

“You know, we have kind of been in a unique spot to where we’ve had a couple of games in a row where there’s been a running-clock situation,” Rang said, also referencing an easy Week 2 home victory over rival Clinton.
“You know, it was kind of unique offensively; we had five different players catch a touchdown pass.
“We had Brody Sparks, our starting quarterback,” he said. “You know, he accounted for three touchdowns, two passing, one rushing.
“Kipton Feagan, our backup quarterback, threw three touchdowns as well. And we had Zayden Williams, Demillyan Porter, Jamonn Crowley, Branson Newberry and Lamiere Porter catch a touchdown pass in the receiving game, and that was cool to see,” Rang said.
Feagan completed 7 of 8 passes for 134 yards and three touchdowns.
Damillyan Porter, a senior running back, rushed for 93 yards on nine carries.
With another lopsided victory behind them, the Wildcats now turn their attention to a road test against Dobyns-Bennett in Kingsport at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11.
“I think everybody’s kind of ready to go play Dobyns-Bennett,” Rang said. “Oak Ridge and Dobyns-Bennett have a great tradition of playing very competitive football games. I know last year they ended up coming down here, and that game was a lot closer maybe than the score indicated.
“So yeah, we’re going to go up there to ‘J. Fred’ (Dobyns-Bennett’s J. Fred Johnson Stadium),” the coach added.
The Indians enter the matchup with a 1-2 record, having lost to Knoxville Central 30-29 and Asheville High of North Carolina 32-31.
“It’s a wild environment, you know, with obviously how big their stadium is and the band reputation and everything, and just the caliber of football program they generally have year in and year out,” Rang said. “You know, coach (Joey) Christian does a great job with that program as far as the coaching goes.
“So we expect it to be a battle, and I think it’s exciting to go up there,” he said.
