Anderson County Sheriff’s Office

• Clinton Highway — Sept. 23: A deputy conducting traffic observation near Edgemoor Road reported seeing a vehicle pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone before turning into a business on Clinton Highway. A records check showed the driver’s license had been revoked. The deputy arrested the driver and issued citations for failure to provide proof of financial responsibility and passing in a no-passing zone. A court date was set for Oct. 13, and the driver was transported to the Anderson County Detention Facility.

• Main Street, Clinton — Sept. 24: Deputies took a person into custody on an outstanding warrant alleging violation of pretrial release. The person was transported to the Anderson County Detention Facility without incident.

• Whitetail Lane — Sept. 24: A deputy contacted a person on Whitetail Lane and learned the person had two confirmed Anderson County arrest warrants. The person was taken into custody and transported to the Anderson County Detention Facility.

• Heiskell — Sept. 25: Deputies responded to a moving truck stuck in a ditch and blocking Hinds Creek Road. During the investigation, a deputy reported smelling marijuana and searched the vehicle. The deputy reported finding about 0.9 ounce of suspected marijuana, marijuana seeds and stems, digital scales, plastic baggies, drug paraphernalia, a written ledger and $310 in cash. A passenger was taken into custody on allegations involving possession of a Schedule VI drug with intent to manufacture, deliver or sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Public Safety Lane, Clinton — Sept. 25: Deputies learned that a person being held at the Anderson County Detention Facility had an active South Carolina bench warrant. After confirming the warrant and extradition with authorities there, the person was charged with being a fugitive from justice, according to the report.

• Oak Ridge — Sept. 26: A deputy stopped a vehicle on Melton Lake Drive after reportedly observing it traveling at a high rate of speed. A records check showed the driver’s license had been revoked for failure to maintain liability insurance. The driver was issued a citation in lieu of arrest and given an Oct. 20 court date. A licensed driver responded to take possession of the vehicle.

• Lake City Highway, Clinton — Sept. 27: Deputies responded to a reported aggravated assault after two people said a man pointed a handgun at them as they attempted to leave a residence following an argument. Deputies located a loaded handgun at the residence and took the suspect into custody. The firearm was placed into evidence.

• Clinton — Sept. 27: A deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Earl Lane after a caller said a driver appeared to be unconscious. The deputy reported finding a woman asleep in the driver’s seat with the vehicle running, an open container of beer in the center console and signs of alcohol impairment. After unsuccessful attempts to arrange for a sober person to pick her up, she was taken into custody on an allegation of public intoxication and transported to the Anderson County Detention Facility.

• Clinton — Sept. 29: A man was treated at Tennova North Medical Center after accidentally shooting himself in the right leg while target shooting at a residence. The man told a deputy he was walking downrange with a new .22-caliber pistol when he felt as though he was dropping it. He said he tried to catch the pistol and accidentally pulled the trigger. The deputy reported an entrance wound to the man’s right calf and an apparent exit wound near the ankle. The injury did not appear to be life-threatening, and the incident was determined to be an accidental shooting.

• Clinton — Sept. 29: Deputies investigated a false report of a hostage situation after a caller contacted Clinton police and claimed to have two pipe bombs and threatened to shoot hostages at a residence. The report states this was the second time the Sheriff’s Office had received a similar false report involving the same address. A deputy contacted the resident, who said she had recently purchased the trailer and lived there with her children. The deputy provided dispatch with contact information for the resident. No actual hostage situation was reported.

• Clinton— Sept. 29: A deputy responded Oak Ridge Highway at Marcowe Drive to a report of a man lying alongside the road and found him in the grass. The deputy reported smelling alcohol and said the man was unsteady and barely understandable. The man reportedly said he had consumed several alcoholic drinks and had nowhere to stay. He was taken into custody on an allegation of public intoxication and transported to the Anderson County jail. The deputy also reported that the man possessed a tripod sprinkler that he said he had stolen but could not say where it came from. The man was later released, and the deputy reported attempting to determine where the sprinkler had been taken from and whether the owner wanted to prosecute.
