Hawks open postseason against Cherokee Oct. 15
Clinton Middle School football is preparing for the playoffs.
The Hawks, the No. 2 seed with a 5-3 record, will host Cherokee at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at Clinton High School in the first round of the Class 4A East Tennessee playoffs.
“We did have a decent season,” Woodard said. “We had 1,000 yards rushing, 700-something yards passing. Obviously, we’d like to have the Jacksboro game back.”
Clinton lost that game 24-22.
“And even the Scott County game,” Woodard said of a 22-0 loss. “We played defense really well. We were down a couple of starters on offense.”
Westin Gladon rushed for 493 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had 179 receiving yards and three touchdown catches.
Kooper Bayless rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns and had 160 receiving yards and two touchdown catches.
Chris Frazier had 155 receiving yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 102 yards.
Jacob Deal caught eight passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns.
Luke Whitt had a kickoff return for a touchdown, while Frazier and Bayless each returned a punt for a score.
Quarterback Jaxson Sherwood completed 34 of 56 passes for 436 yards and eight touchdowns.
Gladon completed 14 of 20 passes for 179 yards, while quarterback Joseph Haynes went 5-for-5 for 100 yards.
On defense, Bayless recorded 25.5 tackles, including assists, recovered a fumble and intercepted two passes.
Frazier had 13.5 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception.
Whitt recorded 12 tackles, recovered two fumbles and had three interceptions.
Lane Lowe had 11 tackles and two fumble recoveries, while Deal finished with 10.5 tackles.
Reece Adkins had nine tackles, Blake Wood recorded eight, and Gladon had seven tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception.
Brentlee Draper and Niah Collins each recorded seven tackles, while Schuyler Carey had 6.5 and Owen Griffin finished with six.
