A year after making school history, the Norris Middle School girls cross country team returned to the state championship meet with a younger lineup and another impressive accomplishment.

Last year, the Lady Senators qualified for the TSSAA state championship meet for the first time in program history, finishing fourth in Class AA.

Norris returned to Weakley Park in Clarksville on Saturday, Oct. 3, and despite fielding a younger team than in 2025, finished 13th in the state in Class AA.

“You know, I’m sitting there at the state with only one returning girl, and so 13th wasn’t our best day, it wasn’t our worst day,” NMS head coach Derek Wallace said. “But just making it was a great accomplishment for this group with only one returning girl.”

Sixth-grader Charleston Leverton led the Lady Senators, finishing 20th overall with a time of 13 minutes, 24.01 seconds.

Seventh-grader Skyelar Nicely finished 70th in 15:02.89, followed by fellow seventh-grader Montgomery Bingham, who placed 77th in 15:12.95.

Seventh-grader Avery Green finished 84th in 15:24.81, while classmate Tatum Posey placed 99th with a time of 16:12.08.

Rounding out the Norris finishers was sixth-grader Meredith Fox, who placed 105th in 16:32.19.

With a roster dominated by sixth- and seventh-graders, the Lady Senators gained valuable state championship experience while laying the groundwork for another potential postseason run next year.
