Clinton Cards & Collectibles, a sports-card and mostly sports-related memorabilia shop, has opened at 346 Market St. in Historic Downtown Clinton.

Jeff Smith opened the store in early October, he said, re-creating a similar business he owned and operated on Market Street 30 years ago, he said.

The new store is open Tuesday through Saturday, but closed on Sunday and Monday.

Hours are noon-6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, Smith said.

Smith, who is a lieutenant in the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office who works at the county jail in Clinton, said he is nearly eligible for retirement from that job, and his new business will be a retirement occupation for him.

“I did this 30 years ago,” he said at the store on Saturday. “I was at 360 Market St. for six years.”

Besides sports cards, commemorative baseballs and some other collectibles, the store soon will also be offering coins and comic books, Smith said.

Items will be bought and sold at the store, which is next door to Fine Things Antiques & Décor.
