Clinton orders Market Street traffic study

The city of Clinton has asked a traffic engineer to look at the traffic flow on Market Street and Eagle Bend Road, between North Main and East Weaver streets, relative to both pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

City Manager Roger Houck on Oct. 26 told the City Council that the study was “in response to some issues raised with the reopening of Market Street.”

Houck said the city, after re-opening the street, lowered its speed limit to 15 mph from 25 mph.

“But we’re still having some issues, still getting some complaints,” Houck said.

One such complaint, he said, involved trucks.

“We’ve had a tremendous amount of trucks using it as a truck route,” he said. “One Fed-Ex truck went through and wiped out a few of our signs plus one of our new garbage cans. We’ve had a couple more do the same.”

He said the city added more “No Trucks” signs to warn truckers, but that the study might help further resolve the problem.
