Mary Johnson Foley Miller, 87, Clinton, and Jesup, Ga., passed away peacefully Christmas Eve, 2019, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Ga.
She was a member of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge and the daughter of the late Clinton O. and Mamie Aldridge Johnson of Baxley, Ga.
Preceded in death by: Brothers, Floyd, Linton (L.C.), Malcolm (Jiggs), Dupree; sisters, Leotis Muller and Lucille Medders; husbands, Bill Foley and Harold Hawn; and son-in-law, Darrell Smith.
She is survived by: Husband, Herbert L. Miller of Jesup, Ga.; daughters, Debra F. Dickerson (Hermon) of Sugar Hill, Ga., and Janice F. Smith of Clinton; granddaughters, Andrea Grant (Brent), Deanna Sliger (Kirk) of Clinton, and Laura Trusty (Clint) of Suwanee, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Emma and Adah Grant; Kole and Kaysen Sliger, and Jack Trusty; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She retired from Martin Marietta in 1995 after 46 years of service. This allowed her to travel and visit family and friends. Mary will continue to be an exceptional role model for her family, full of love, laughter and strength. She is deeply loved by her family and friends will always remain their hearts.

Cindy Diane Vaughn Goodman, 52, Rocky Top, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
She was the daughter of the late Ned Sheriel Vaughn and Carolyn Elaine Byers Vaughn. Cindy loved to spend time with her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed going to the lake, fishing, cooking and listening to music. She was of the Baptist faith.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Vaughn.
Cindy is survived by: Husband, Tommy Ray Goodman; sons, Thomas Adam Ray Goodman (Brittany Byrd) of Rocky Top, Nicholas Aaron Tray Goodman (Brianna Tramyne Smith) of Rocky Top; daughters, Kathrine (Nikki) Tanicka Vaughn of Hiram, Ga., Kathrine (Kadie) Danielle Mills (Patrick Lee) Of Sevierville; son-in-law, Eddie Mills of London, Ky.; brother, Chipper Vaughn of Georgia; sisters, Karen Vaughn Gayton and (Tony Graton) of Dallas, Ga., and Melissa Reeves of Clinton; nine grandchildren, Kiley, Shamya, Jaden, Jacob, Destinee, Joseff, Jescey, Brylee and Brooklynn; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Cynthia’s family will receive her friends from 5 – 6 p.m.with her memorial service to follow in the chapel of Jones Mortuary Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019.

NELL NABORS CHARLES

Nell Nabors Charles passed away Dec. 19, 2019, at Canterfield Assisted Living in Oak Ridge.
She was born Nell Nabors on Dec. 12, 1924 in Mansfield, La., to John Bachman and Camille Taylor Nabors, and recently reached her 95th birthday. Nell attended Louisiana Tech University and upon graduation in the spring of 1945 traveled by train to Oak Ridge to work during the Manhattan Project as a lab technician in the Y-12 plant. There she met her husband, James Wiley Charles Jr., and married June 9, 1948. She took a reduction in force in 1952 to begin raising two sons as the family relocated to Clinton, living most of their lives on Eagle Bend Road. Nell attended Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton. An avid bridge player, Nell received Life Master Achievement.
Nell was preceded in death by: Husband of 57 years; sisters, Marie Lee Nabors, Lulie Taylor Nabors Brunk, Camille Nabors; brother, John Bachman Nabors Jr.
She is survived by: Sons and daughters-in-law James (Jim) Wiley Charles III and wife Melissa Parks Charles, and John David Charles and Gabrina Charles: grandchildren, James (Jamie) W. Charles IV and Lauren Marie Charles; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to Kathy McCameron and staff at Canterfield Assisted Living for providing care and comfort during the last five years of Nell's life.
The family will receive friends from 1 – 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, fwith funeral service at 3 p.m. at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home.
Interment will follow funeral service at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.

Charles Williams, 79, Clinton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, at his residence.
He was born July 5, 1940, to the late Paul and Myrtle Reed Williams in Clinton. He was a woodworker who also enjoyed fishing and working on trucks. Charles was a member of Island Home Baptist Church. He loved his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: Wife, Wilma Jean Williams; brother, J.C. Williams; sister, Mary Ann Sims; and daughter, Imogene Williams.
Survived by: Wife, Barbara Williams; children, Darrell Williams, Jodie Dean; grandchildren, Junior Williams, Rhonda Williams, Charles Tyler Goodwin, Kayla Goodwin, Casey Dean, Sam Dean; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Jeremiah, Hunter, Levi, Sadie, Sawyer, Evelyn; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. with the the Rev. James Hammock officiating.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at Hillvale Baptist Church Cemetery.

WILLIAM (BILL) LATHAM

Mr. William (Bill) Latham, 79, Oak Ridge, passed away at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on March 20, 1940, to the late, William Holstick and Zennia Latham Elder in Powell.
William was among the Clinton 12, which were young African American students who walked into history in Clinton. They were the first students to desegregate a state-supported high school in the south. Clinton High School holds the honor of having the first African American person to graduate from a public high school in the South. It was a great victory for the 20th century Civil Rights Movement. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and listening to gospel music, especially Five Blind Boys, and Bill was a veteran and served in the Army.
In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by: Grandmother, JoAnn Hall; brother, Charles Latham.
Bill is survived by: Sisters, Gladys Harris and Amie Henderson both of Oak Ridge; cousin, Shirley Maxwell of Knoxville; special friends, Robert Dixon of Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. George and Georgia Reed of Oak, Ridge, Mr. and Mrs. Georgia and Rufus Shepard, Anna Caswell of Powell; many other nieces, nephews and relatives and friends.
The family wants to thank Amedisys hospice for their wonderful care.
Memorial Services will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2019, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 195 Wilberforce Ave, Oak Ridge, with the Rev. Henry Watson and the Rev. Ronald Lacy officiating.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at Haven Chapel Cemetery in Claxton.

Linda Denise Weaver-Green, 61, Clinton passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, at her residence.
Linda was member of Asbury United Methodist Church. For many years Linda worked at Food City and Community Action in Clinton.
She was preceded in death by: Mother, Grace Weaver; and brother, Jerry Weaver.
She is survived by: Husband, James Green; children, Yok Weaver, Lycosta Weaver-Atwater, Echelle Weaver; stepchildren, Stacy Green Justice, Jason Green; grandchildren, Damaujah Weaver-Atwater, Hannah Crace, Rishon Bright, Myles Weaver, Jailie Rodd, Loila Weaver-Atwater, Adelin Weaver; stepgrandchildren, Emily and Husband Andrew Gonzalez, Lucas Justice and Elijah Justice; sisters, Bonnie Weaver and Lisa Weaver; brother, Terry Weaver.
The family will have a Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, at Asbury United Methodist Church.

Terry Wayne Lowe, 54, Anderson County, passed away Dec. 17, 2019, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He was born July 31, 1965, to the late James Donald Lowe and Naomi Boley.
Terry was from Anderson County. He enjoyed Florida football, watching wrestling, fishing and loved his cat, Angel.
Terry was preceded in death by: Father, James Lowe; sisters, Gloria Goodman and Vickey Wallace.
Terry is survived by: Mother, Naomi Boley; brothers, Curtis Lowe, James Lowe, Lane Lowe and LeRoy Lowe, Dennis Hillard and Matt Hillard; sisters, Helen Echnoz, Amanda Seiber, Donna Lowe and Arlene Armes; special friends, Fred White, Roy Smith and Mary.

Haley Marie Riggs, 57, Anderson County, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Marie was born Feb. 6, 1962, to the late Silas Hatmaker and Agnus Flatford Healey in Andersonville.
Marie was of the Baptist faith and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, she loved farming, yard saleing, going to flea markets. Her family was her life.
In addition to her parents Marie was preceded in death by her step-mother, Janice Hatmaker.
Marie is survived by: Husband, JB (Brian) Riggs; son, Jeremiah Brian Riggs and wife Kacie of Andersonville; daughter, Serena Satterfield and husband Frank of Andersonville; brothers, Dan Hatmaker and wife Johnnie, Marty Hatmaker and wife Misty, Chris Hatmaker and wife Becky, Randy Hatmaker and wife Maureen, all of Andersonville, Louie Hatmaker of North Carolina, and Johnny Flatford of Clinton; sisters, Tina Hamilton and husband Danny of Andersonville; grandchildren, Kearstin, Daisy, Bentley, Jacob, Eli, Stevin (Lee) and Brianna; special neice, Savannah (Doodle Bug) Hill; many other nieces nephews, nephews and relatives and friends.
