Jerry L. Shultz, 74, Lake City, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at his residence.
Jerry was born July 29, 1942, in Anderson County to the late Luther and Pearl McMahan Shultz. He was a member of Clinch River Baptist Church in Lake City. Jerry loved to help people, garden, and travel.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Dockery.
Survivors: Wife, Lynn Webb Shultz of Maryville; sons, Rick Shultz and Shauna of Lake City, Kent Shultz of Clinton, Ronald Gervais of Knoxville, John Webb Gervais of Springfield, Mo.; sister, Pearlie and Gary Snider of Lake City; grandchildren, KC Shultz, Ashley Wilson and Joseph of Clinton; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Kolton Wilson.
Visitation was from 2 – 4 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City. A Celebration of Life Service followed visitation Saturday, April 1, 2017, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating.

Thelma Bradshaw Phillips, 93, Andersonville, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 20, 2017.
She was born March 6, 1924, in Coal Creek.
She was preceded in death by: Parents, David and Louisa Bradshaw; infant brothers, David, James, and Franklin; sister, Shirley Bradshaw; father and mother-in-law, Horace and Sarah Phillips; brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Lula Rogers, Bill and Jewell Powers, H.M. and Cheryl Phillips; brother-in-law, Ray Kilgore; nephews, William Bradshaw, Walter Rogers, and Tommy Rogers; niece, Angela Kilgore; beloved husband, George Phillips.
Thelma was a devoted Christian who was a member of First Baptist Church in Andersonville. She was devoted to her family and community. Thelma and her husband George were active for many years at the Museum of Appalachia and enjoyed a close friendship with John Rice Irwin. At home she loved to sew and work in her garden. Her greatest love was her family.
Beloved mother of David and Charlotte Phillips, Stacey and Howard Tuggle, Emmanuel and Debbie Phillips; beloved grandmother of Shannon Plemons, Tania Cook, Matthew Phillips, Rebecca Phillips, Jeremiah and April Tuggle, Sarah Tuggle, Jacob and Misty Phillips, Zachary Phillips, Ethan and Tara Phillips; beloved great-grandmother of Haleigh Plemons, Caleb Plemons, Isaiah Plemons, Austin Cook, Madalyn Phillips, Alexander Tuggle, and Raigan Rose.
She is also survived by: Brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Shirley Bradshaw; sister, Margie Kilgore, nieces and nephews, Kim Siebe, Steve Kilgore, Janet Catton, Cindy Daniels, Karen Angarole, Michelle Miller, Kathy Snellings, Tim Bradshaw, Bill Powers, Lynn Justice, Rocky Phillips, Wayne Rogers, Linda Ihander, Carlene Marcum; numerous great-nieces and nephews; special cousins, Sandra Foust, Maggie Phillips; special friends, Faye Bumgardner, Gladys O’dell, Kathleen Wallace, Evelyn Green, Carolyn Stengel, Michael Foust, John Rice Irwin, Melissa and Floyd Anderson and Judy Byrge.

Edsel L. Weaver, 94, Heiskell, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017, at his residence.
Edsel was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp and served his country in World War II. He owned and operated Weaver’s Auto Parts in Clinton. Throughout his life he loved to fish, work on cars, and was a man who loved life.
Preceded in death by: Wife, Mable Weaver; parents, Monroe and Mary Weaver; grandson, Tracy Weaver; brother, Paul Weaver.
He is survived by: Son, Eddy Weaver and wife Dianna of Heiskell; daughter, Barbara Weaver of Naples, Fla.; grandchildren, Kelli Randolph and husband Edmond of Powell, Craig Keller and wife Samantha of Cordova; several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home. His funeral service followed in the chapel with the Rev. Charles Tindell, the Rev. Kenneth Snow, the Rev. Jack Gwinn.
Edsel’s graveside was at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Norris Memorial Garden with full military honors at graveside.

Mrs. Janice Ann Goforth, 72, of the Eagle Creek Community, Holladay, Tenn., passed away March 19, 2017, at her residence.
Mrs. Goforth was born Jan. 6, 1945, in Anderson County. She was a retired housekeeper with Best Western Motel in Camden, Tenn., and attended Calvary Baptist Church.
Survived by: Husband, James Goforth; daughters, Lisa (Ben Thompson, Diane White; brothers, Vaughn (Carolyn) Ridenour, Harry (Janet) Ridenour, Larry (Georgia) Ridenour, Bobby (Susan) Ridenour, Dewane Ridenour, Jackie (Connie) Ridenour; sisters, Peggy (Steve) Turpin, Rhonda (Wayne) Hatmaker, Debra (Tom) Barton; grandchildren, Beth (Adam) Walker, Ashley (Sam) Carter, Hannah Thompson, Joseph White, Jackie (Zach) Ballard; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Dawson, Annie, Maggie, Reese, Remy, Hunter, Haley, Alexa, and Laiklyn.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Oakdale Funeral, Camden, Tenn., with Bro. Jeffrey Lankford officiating.
Burial followed at Eagle Creek Cemetery in Holladay, Tenn.

Mr. Floy A. Wells Jr., 85, Clinton, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017.
Mr. Wells was a retired supervisor with Union Carbide at Y-12. He was a veteran of the United States United States Army. He was a member and past master of Andersonville Valley Lodge #383 and 32nd degree Scottish Rite.
Preceded in death by: Parents, Floy A. Sr. and Flora Bridges Wells; sister, Billie Morris.
He is survived by:
Son, Mitchell Stand and wife Kimberly Ann Wells of Sweetwater; daughter, Sherry and husband David Humphrey of Clinton; grandchildren, Brandon Curtis Wells, Alysha Tackett and husband Michael, Arien Woods and husband Derrick; great-grandchildren, Connor Tackett, Catelyn Tackett, Lacy Lambert, Natalie Woods, Cordelia Woods; several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home.
A Masonic Service was held at 7 p.m. with a funeral service to follow in the chapel with the Rev. Ronald Guthrie officiating. Family and friends met at 1 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at the funeral home and go in procession to Anderson Memorial Garden for a graveside service at 2 p.m.

MATTIE VIRGINIA GUETTNER SCARBROUGH

Mattie Virginia Guettner Scarbrough, a long time resident of Kingston, made her final journey to her heavenly home Thursday, March 23, 2017, at The Lantern Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence in Lenoir City.
Virginia was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Roane County, the daughter of Thomas Oscar and Mollie Eva Robinette Guettner. She was happily married to Calvin A. Scarbrough on April 10, 1955. He preceded her in death August 24, 2012.
Virginia retired from Y-12 Nuclear Plant in Oak Ridge after 32 years of clerical work in their medical department. After retirement, she was employed by The Michael Dunn Center, Calhouette Children’s Residence in Kingston. Mrs. Scarbrough served faithfully in her home church until the latter years when the struggles of age and dementia made this more difficult. Through the years many were blessed by her love and willingness to lend a hand, regardless of the size of the task. She influenced the lives of many children, though she was blessed with none of her own. In her latter years, she spent the majority of her time with family and tirelessly working in her yard. She was a woman of many talents and her legacy will remain in the hearts of many, for years to come.
In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Margaret Pearl; and a brother, Thomas Lloyd Guettner.
She is survived by: Sister, Kathleen Wiseman; four nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; 11 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; special friends and neighbors, Kyle and Mary Beverly and their children.
The family received friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Fraker Funeral Home with funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Kyle E. Beverly officiating.
Family and friends met at 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at Cedar Grove Cemetery on Johnston Valley Road in Kingston, for graveside service.

Matthew Hill, 37, Lenoir City, formerly of Clinton, went home to be with his heavenly father March 26, 2017.
Matt graduated from Clinton High School in 1997. Throughout his life he loved listening to music and watching his nephew “Little Matt (Matt Ramsey)” play professional baseball, but most of his time was spent with his son, Riley. He had a heart of gold and loved everyone around him, including his grandmother, Floella Skaggs, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by: Son, Riley Hill of Lenoir City; parents, Tim and Phyllis Hill of Lenoir City; wife, Misty Hill of Lenoir City; sisters, Vicki Ledbetter of Florida, Melody Henderson of Lafollette; aunts, Rochelle Loy and husband Willie, Janice Kidwell, Carlene Indelicato; nephew, Matt Ramsey and wife Kirsten; mother and father-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Henderson of Jacksboro; sister-in-law, Megan Henderson of Knoxville; special friends, Candice Smith, Pauline Myers; many friends, family and cousins.

Rev. A.L. Turpin, 75, Heiskell, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, at his home.
He was a very loving caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was called to preach at the age of 23. He pastored several churches up until the age of 73, and his favorite verse was “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.
A.L. is preceded in death by: Parents, Felbert and Irma Lee Turpin; wife, Charlene Turpin; and daughter, Margie Ann Pike.
