ANTHONY 'TONY' WAYNE GARDNER III

Anthony “Tony” Wayne Gardner III, 18, Knoxville, passed away suddenly Aug. 13, 2022, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He had a unique personality that everyone loved. Tony attended High Point Baptist Church and was in kindergarten through 4th grade while living in Covington, Ga. Then he and his family moved back to Oak Ridge where he attended Robertsville Middle School and Oak Ridge High School. He graduated from Powell High School in 2022. Tony thoroughly enjoyed drama and being in plays while he was in high school. That was mainly due to his amazing drama teacher, Ms. Doubleday, who always went above and beyond what was required of her and always made time to help and assist Tony in whatever capacity he needed. Tony was very loyal to his family and enjoyed playing video games and gaming with his friends. Tony loved swimming, baseball and was fascinated with swords. He also had an interest in languages. Tony was in the process of learning Japanese using online program.
He was preceded in death by: Great-grandmother, Shelby Gardner; great-grandfathers, Harlan Thurman and Albert Pack.
Tony is survived by: Father, Anthony Wayne Gardner Jr. of Powell; mother, Carrie Lashel Gardner of Knoxville; brother, Arthur Dean (Salem) Gardner of Farragut; sisters, Mariah Brown of Tampa Fla., and Sarah-Kate Lynn Hardegree of Covington, Ga.; nieces, Tallyah Brown, Aubriellan Brown; and nephew, Ezariah Brown.
Also: Grandfathers, Anthony Gardner Sr. and wife Lue of Tampa, Fla., Carl Bunch Jr. and wife Stacey of Rocky Top; grandmothers, Cheryl Nolen of Knoxville, and Angelia Holpp and husband Richard of Delaware; great-grandfather, Arthur “Sonny” Gardner formerly of Oak Ridge now of Tampa, Fla..; great-grandmothers, Helen Roark of Powell, and Joyce Pack of Knoxville; and many other relatives and friends.
Tony’s family will be receiving his friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, with his celebration of life following at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Jones Mortuary in Clinton. Brother Dewey Caldwell will be officiating.

Anthony Chris Haynes’ extraordinary life was cut short Aug. 12, 2022.
Though his absence is and will be mourned for a long time to come by all of us who know and love him, he is resting (maybe for the first time ever) peacefully in heaven.
Chris was born July 19, 1964, in Knoxville to parents Jerry Lynn Haynes and Dixie Pearl Haynes.
He is survived by: Wife, Karen Denise Haynes; children, Brandon (Ashley) Haynes and Megan (Aaron) Jenkins; mother, Dixie Haynes; siblings, Jerry Lynn (Debra) Haynes Jr., Vana (David) DeMarinis, and Charlotte (Andy) Roberts; beloved grandchildren, Hadlee, Booth, and Haynes Jenkins, and Briley and Bristol Haynes; and many other close friends who he considered his family.
He was preceded in death by: Father, Jerry Haynes; and sister, Labrisca Idles.
His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he was absolutely the light of theirs. He was a loyal employee of Y-12 National Security Complex since 1986.
Receiving of friends will be held at Premier Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs, from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, with a service to follow.
Funeral procession will begin at Premier Sharp Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, with Chris’s final resting place at Long Cemetery in Clinton.

LYDIA LUCILLE HATMAKER

Lydia Lucille Hatmaker, 87, Clinton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022.
She was born Feb. 2, 1935, in Fork Mountain, the daughter of Virgil (Boots) Armes and Lucinda Daugherty Armes, who predecease her. Lydia was a graduate of Lake City High School and Lincoln Memorial University. She worked as a Registered Nurse for Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge for many years where she received the Who's Who in America Nursing Women honor. She and her late husband owned and operated Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City with their children. Lydia had fond memories of growing up in Fork Mountain and loved to share them.
In addition to her parents, Lydia was preceded in death by: Husband of 62 years, Robert "Bob" Hatmaker; son, Steve Hatmaker; and sisters, Sallie Basler White, Rhoda Dagley, Lillian Smithers, Loretta Woods, and Deana Parks.
Survivors: Daughter, Robbie Hatmaker Pack (Eddie) of Lake City; sons, Jeffery "Scott" Hatmaker (Donna) of Oak Ridge, Stan Hatmaker (Becky) of Clinton; daughter-in-Law Susan Hatmaker of Clinton; brothers, Freddy Armes (Diana) of Wartburg, Virgil Armes (Rosalee) of Knoxville; grandchildren, Zack Hardy (Laura), Jeffery Hatmaker (Kacy), Jon-Michael Hatmaker, Luke Hatmaker, Mary-Frances Stine (Austin), Chelsey Iha, Morgan Hatmaker, Taylor Hatmaker, Ellie Hatmaker, Audrey Hatmaker; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Will Hardy, Skye, Kota, and Tristan Hatmaker, Sydney, Savannah, and Dylan Stine; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.
Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, with Father Richard Armstrong and Deacon Pete Chiaro officiating at St. Therese Catholic Church in Clinton.
A graveside service followed the Funeral Mass at the Leach Cemetery in Lake City.

DIXIE LEE LENGNER
August 11, 2022
Dixie Lee Lengner, 58, passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022, at Sacred Ground Hospice House in Knoxville.
Dixie lived most of her life in Ft. Collins and Loveland, Colo., and finally said she found her place in Tennessee. She pursued careers as a court reporter, medical transcriptionist, and real estate agent. Dixie served honorably in the Naval Reserve for seven years and was proud to wear the uniform alongside her daughter, Jessie, and her son, Asa. She was a woman of strong faith who loved the Lord with all her heart. She enjoyed volunteering for KARM and the Angelic Ministry. Her three-year intense battle with ovarian cancer has finally come to an end. Her family is at peace in the comfort that her suffering is no more, and she is now in the arms of our Loving Father in Heaven.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Martha Lengner.
Dixie is survived by: Fiancé, David Stringfield; son, Asa Gunderman and wife Leslie; daughters, Jessie Hartel and husband Shawn, Crystal Graham; brothers, David Lengner, Don Lengner, Jim Lengner, Josh Lengner, Matthew Lengner; sister, Denise Hammang; grandchildren, Dean Gunderman, Bay Gunderman, and Lilly Hartel.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Jones Mortuary from 10 a.m. - noon Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022.
Dixie’s funeral service will begin at noon with the Rev. Chuck Letsinger officiating.
Following her funeral service, the family will be going in procession to Oliver Springs Cemetery where the Campbell County Honor Guard will perform full military honors before her graveside service begins.

On Aug. 10, 2022, Darlis Phillips went home to be with Jesus at the age of 91.
She was born Feb. 17, 1931. She was a faithful member of Fraterville Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing with the choir. In her free time, she enjoyed planting flowers, cooking and spending time with her family. She was very loved and will be missed by many.
Darlis was preceded in death by: Husband of 60 years, Byrd C Phillips; and son, Byrdus Phillips.

Family and friends met at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City to go in procession to the Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake City for an 11 a.m. graveside service.

EDNA PURN (EDMONDS) PHILLIPS

Edna Purn (Edmonds) Phillips, 93, Dutch Valley, passed away peacefully Aug. 10, 2022, at her home.
She was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church where she enjoyed going to Sunday school and attended regularly until her health declined. In younger years she loved to sew and make clothes, enjoyed canning from the garden her husband, James, put out. Recently she loved going out for drives and people watching. She always enjoyed sitting on the porch with her husband, James, until he passed in 2017. She was a wonderful homemaker and helpmate to her husband. She was always concerned about her children and grandchildren even when she wasn’t feeling well herself, she was the epitome of a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Jimmy Ray Burris, 64, Jacksboro, passed away Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at the LaFollette Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 9, 1957, to Ellis and Blanche Burris. Jimmy was a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was also preceded in death by: Grandparents, Otis and Bessie Burris and Arthur and Gladys Neer; sister, Patricia Burris; and brother, Virgil Burris.

DENNIS 'DOUG' McGHEE

Dennis “Doug” McGhee, 79, Clinton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He was born Sept. 20, 1942, in Clinton to Ulyess and Bessie McMahan McGhee. Dennis was an honorary member of the Clinton Car Club and loved his 1968 red Mustang. He loved the Saturday Night Poker Club, shooting pool and just loved hanging with all his buddies. Dennis also enjoyed watching and feeding the wildlife that visited his house daily.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by: wife, Lois Faye McGhee; and in-Laws, Coy and Ruth Wright.
Survived by: Children, Douglas David McGhee and wife Kimberly, Angelia Martin and Greg Floyd; grandchildren, Randi Nicole Hope husband Kristopher, Annatasha Tawnee Cooper and husband Cody; great-grandchildren, Jackson David McGhee, Gabriella Cooper, Scarlett Cooper and Emmaline Hope; a host of very special friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Jimmy Ault officiating.
Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022, and go in funeral procession to Grandview Memorial Garden for a 3 p.m. interment.
