Just like the old days — barge traffic on the Clinch

It’s been two decades — maybe three (depending on who you ask) — since a barge has passed through Clinton on the Clinch River. That changed Sunday when a barge carrying a 3,000-ton metal press was delivered to Eagle Bend Manufacturing in the J.D. Yarnell Industrial Park via the Tenn-Tom Waterway — final destination Clinton. Too large and heavy to move by roadway, the press was loaded on a barge in New Orleans for its trip up the Tombigbee, Tennessee, and Clinch Rivers. The press shipped from Asia (from Hyundai Wia Corp., a division of Hyundai Motor Group of South Korea) the day after Christmas, taking 11 weeks to reach its final destination.
