Fulton 12
The Oak Ridge Wildcats claimed the Region 3-5A Championship with a 21-12 win over perennial power Fulton last Friday night.
The Wildcats’ defense was dominant as they held the Falcons to just 13 yards rushing in the game and to a total of just 154 yards. They allowed only one score as Fulton scored a touchdown on an interception return.
Oak Ridge rolled up 288 total yards of offense in a balanced attack (141 yards passing, 147 yards rushing) in the win.
Individual stats were not available at press time.
With the region title, the Wildcats (8-2 overall, 6-0 in region play) are the number one seed in Region 3-5A. They will open the playoffs by hosting Soddy Daisy (6-4) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Fulton (8-2 overall, 5-1 in region action) will host Lenoir City (2-8) on Friday.
Campbell County 20
Knoxville West 27
The Campbell County Cougars just missed on the third seed in Region 3-5A as they fell at Knoxville West by a score of 27-20 last Friday evening.
Cougars’ quarterback Zach Rutherford went 37-56 for 381 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 10 carries for 38 yards.
Shawn Marcum had 13 catches for 145 yards and a touchdown for Campbell County while Elijah Phillips had 11 receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Bryce Trentham led the Cougars with 13 tackles, including a sack and five tackles for a loss.
Drew Jordan had 13 tackles including two for a loss while Phillips had seven tackles, including a sack.
The Cougars finish the regular season 7-3 overall, 4-2 in Region 3-5A. They will open postseason play with a visit to Knoxville Catholic (7-3, 4-0 in region play) on Friday at 7 p.m.
The number three seed Rebels finish at 6-4, 4-2 in Region 3-5A. They will travel to Rhea County (5-5, 3-1 in region play) Friday night for the first round of the playoffs.
Midway 7
Oliver Springs 41
The Oliver Springs Bobcats are headed to the playoffs after a 41-7 thrashing of visiting Midway on Friday evening.
Landen Everett opened scoring for the Bobcats with a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Zach Brooks added the extra point to give Oliver Springs a 7-0 lead.
Later in the quarter, Everett scored on a two-yard run and Brooks booted the PAT to make 14-0 in favor of the home team.
Mason Hill next scored on a 40-yard run and Brooks added the extra point to give Oliver Springs a 21-0 first quarter lead.
Midway picked up their lone score in the second quarter but the Bobcats tacked on a 38-yard field goal by Brooks to lead 24-7 at the half.
Senior Michael Crawford opened scoring in the third quarter with a 49-yard touchdown run. The Brooks PAT made it 31-7 in favor of the Bobcats.
Later in the quarter, Hill returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown. The extra point by Brooks made it a 38-7 Oliver Springs lead.
Brooks scored the final points of the regular season for the Bobcats when he split the uprights with a 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to make the final 41-7.
Crawford finished with 95 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
Everett finished with 86 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries while Hill had 68 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
Defensively, Bailey Russell led the Bobcats with 10 tackles and two interceptions.
Gavin Hill had 10 tackles and interception.
Mason Hill had eight tackles and three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.
Trey Boswell and Lane Lee each had eight tackles.
Oliver Springs finishes the regular season 4-6 overall and 4-2 in Region 2-1A.
They travel to Jellico (4-6) for a match-up in the first round of the playoffs on Friday at 7 p.m.
South Doyle 46
Powell 27
The Powell Panthers ended their regular season on Friday night with a 46-27 loss to visiting South Doyle.
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead when quarterback Walker Trusley threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan McQueen.
James Hyman kicked the extra point to give Powell a 7-0 lead.
South Doyle quarterback Mason Brang answered with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Ton’quez Ball. The Luke Lynn PAT tied the game at 7-7 in the first quarter.
The Cherokees added another score near the end of the quarter when they scored on an 11-yard touchdown run.
The extra point attempt was no good but South Doyle took a 13-7 lead.
In the second quarter, Trusley led the Panthers back as he threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Bailor Walker.
Hyman added the extra point to give Powell a 14-13 advantage.
Brang led the Cherokees back to the end zone with a 22-yard scoring strike to Seandre Scott. The PAT was no good but South Doyle led 19-14.
Again the Panthers responded as Riley Bryant threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Trusley. The extra point attempt failed but the Panthers reclaimed the lead at 20-19.
Before the half, Brang tossed a 41-yard touchdown pass and Austin Morse added the extra point to give the Cherokees a 26-20 lead at the half.
South Doyle opened scoring in the second half when Ball returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown.
Morse kicked the extra point to give the Cherokees a 33-20 lead.
As the game moved to the fourth quarter, Trusley threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Alex Hart.
Hyman kicked the extra point to cut the South Doyle lead to 33-27.
Brang responded with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ball. The two-point conversion attempt failed but the Cherokees increased their lead to 39-27.
South Doyle wrapped up scoring in the game with a one-yard touchdown run by Ralph Lee.
Morse added the PAT to make the final 46-27.
Powell finishes the season at 5-5 overall, 2-4 in Region 3-5A.
