Man involved in police shooting had long criminal record
According to the TBI, Clinton police officers received information that a man with outstanding warrants was at the residence.
The suspect, York, had an extensive criminal history dating back to 2004, with multiple arrests for robbery and assault, police records show.
In July, York was arrested by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department for evading arrest, resisting arrest, reckless driving, and assault.
After learning York was at the East Drive residence officers tried to serve warrants for his arrest and take him into custody.
Details of the outstanding warrants York was to be served have not been made available.
After CPD officers arrived York attempted to evade police by climbing out a window.
What happened next has not been released via the TBI investigation.
But at some point during the encounter, York opened fire on police.
An officer returned fire, hitting York, who died on the scene.
No officers were injured.
A news release from the TBI on Nov. 9 stated that the investigation “remains active and ongoing” as TBI Special Agents continue to interview witnesses.
