Quilting for a cause
Clinton business owner teams up with Quilts of Valor
Quilts of Valor is a foundation whose mission is to “cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.”
Quilts of Valor has teamed up with quilters all across the country to award more than 185,000 quilts to veterans and service members. Now, Knight is adding to the tally.
Knight, who was taught to quilt by her mother, retired from the post office last year. As a retirement gift to herself she purchased a Longarm Quilting machine.
Knight knew that Quilts of Valor existed and wanted to get involved but wasn’t aware that it was in the Clinton area.
That’s when Clinch River Quilts of Valor President Gwen Cole came to Patchwork Quilting.
Since then, Knight has been stitching together one quilt a month for Quilts of Valor. And she hopes to soon be able to do more.
Quilts of Valor’s mission is one that is near and dear to Knight, as her father and several family members have
served in the U.S. Military. Not only does Knight knit for Quilts of Valor but also has a very popular quilting style in the T-Shirt Quilt. This is a very popular style because it
is personal.
You can bring in T-Shirts
that may have sentimental value, or maybe just look cool, and Knight can stitch them artfully into a quilt.
Knight is also looking into the possibility of hosting a quilting course for anyone interested in learning the trade.
If you know a veteran or service member that deserves a Quilt of Valor, you can find out more information at www. qovf.org. Or you can go visit Knight at Patchwork Quilting at 355 Cullom Street in Clinton. Her shop is open Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
