Clinton’s traffic flow to be disrupted

Traffic flow in Clinton is about to be disrupted.

Monday night Clinton City Council learned about two road projects that will affect motorists.

One is a short term disruption and will take place before the end of summer; the other will “probably” begin by the start of 2019.

The entrance to Clinton Post Office — at the intersection of Longmire Road and Charles G. Seivers Boulevard — will see a change by the end of the summer.

The city will turn the exit of the Post Office into an entrance. The current entrance will be an exit with a right turn only designation.

“This will eliminate the competition,” Councilman Jim McBride pointed out. As it is traffic coming from the direction of the interstate must use a turn lane to enter the Post Office parking lot.

“People won’t be competing for that turn lane after this is finished

When work is completed at the intersection motorists will be able to turn left at the Longmire Road intersection into the Post Office.

The current entrance to the facility will be an exit only, with no left turn.

City Manager Roger Houck said the process is in the bid stage. He also said there will be a cross walk at the intersection. Material for the change has been purchased.

The other disruption coming for Clinton motorists will be the new bridge crossing the Clinch River at the intersection of Charles Seivers Boulevard and US 25W — replacing Lewallen Bridge.

Houck told Council Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has acquired the property rights it needs for the project and will begin the bidding process by the end of the summer.

Houck said he expects work to begin no later than January, 2019.
