Governor proclaims workplace safety week for Aug. 27-31

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has proclaimed the week of Aug. 27 through 31, 2018, as Safety and Health in the Workplace Week across the state.

The proclamation coincides with the Volunteer Protection Programs’ Participants Association (VPPPA) Safety+ National Symposium, this year held in partnership with the Tennessee Safety and Health Conference (TSHC).

The Governor’s proclamation states promoting good workplace safety and health practices are endeavors worthy of the support of all Tennesseans.

The VPPPA and TSHC Safety+ National Symposium will take place at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and will bring nearly 4,000 safety professionals from across the country to Nashville.

More than two hundred safety companies and organizations will showcase their products and best practices for symposium attendees.

“Each year the TSHC organizes a very successful conference, with more than 700 attendees,” said Steve Hawkins, Tennessee OSHA Assistant Commissioner. “By teaming up with VPPPA we are able to triple the size of our typical conference, therefore bringing that much more information and training to safety and health professionals in Tennessee.”

The Safety+ National Symposium is a four-day event that highlights integrated safety and health management systems through a large exhibit hall, demonstrations, breakout sessions with leading safety and health professionals, and continuing education classes.

The symposium’s activities are designed to be beneficial to those in a safety and health management position, safety professionals, industrial hygienists, or anyone who coordinates safety protocols for their company.

“This year’s national gathering of safety professionals in Nashville has the potential to truly make Tennessee’s workplaces safer,” said Hawkins.

“This is the first time so much information and knowledge has been less than a half day’s drive away for every person responsible for safety and health in the state’s workplaces. I encourage everyone to attend”

Professionals interested in attending can still do so at pre-symposium registration rates by going to https://www.vpppa.org/symposium/register and filling out the online form. Attendees do have the option of registering on-site during the symposium, but at an increased rate.
