Committee thanked for securing life-saving equipment

Nathan Sweet thanks committee members Catherin Denenberg, Philip Warfield, Jerry White (Chairman), Bob Smallridge, and Shain Vowell
It was a nice ‘thank you.”

Anderson County Emergency Services Director Nathan Sweet gave the Anderson County Budget Committee a first-hand look at some of the life saving equipment the committee worked to find funds for: Heart defibrillators.

“I just wanted you to see what you helped us accomplish,” Sweet told the committee.

The new defibrillators are state-of-the-art and can be used not only as defibrillators, but also as heart monitors. They also sync with hospitals so the vitals of cardiac patients can be sent ahead while they are being transported.

“This is a huge life saving tool for cardiac patients,” Sweet told the committee. Sweet said each unit — there will be 13 in all — cost $35,000 each. The Anderson County EMS has received three and are in service. Another 10 are on their way. The older units being replaced were traded in for $4,000 each.

“The older ones are not made by the same company,” Sweet said.

When asked what the final destination of the older components would be Sweet said he understood they would be refurbished and used elsewhere as seen fit.
