Mavs hosting Chattanooga Howard in region matchup

For the Mavericks, winning week in and week out is just part of the process to achieving their end goal. “We have to go watch film and see what we didn’t do good, and there is plenty of things there. We want to be great. We want to win a state championship. So, we have to go see what we have to do to try and accomplish that,” said Head Coach Davey Gillum.

The Anderson County Mavericks look to take another step towards their goal, as the Howard Tech Hustlin’ Tigers (1-2) come to town. Howard Tech has dropped their last two games, and hopes to get back on track this week.

Coming off a big win against cross-town rival Clinton, Anderson County (4-0, 1-0) will ride home field advantage, confidence, and momentum into Friday night’s regionmatch-up.

Expect to see another explosive night from the Mavericks’ offense. The Tigers gave up 39 points last week, and are susceptible to giving up even more this Friday.

Senior quarterback Stanton Martin is having a fantastic year so far, and has an opportunity to rack up another week of impressive stats against the Tigers.

Look for Senior wideout Michael Carroll and Junior wideout Austin Elliot to be Martin’s go-to targets once again. The two wide receivers had a combined five touchdowns last week, and will be major offensive weapons for the Mavs this Friday.

Anderson County’s one-two punch ground game with seniors Ryan Moog and Marquis Gallaher should have plenty of success, as the Tigers gave up 256 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns last Friday.

Expect the duo to find the end zone more than once.

If the Mavericks can be a two-dimensional offense, Anderson County will be extremely hard for the Tigers to defend. Keeping the Tigers’ defense guessing will increase the Mavericks’ opportunity for big plays.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Mavericks will face an offense that is struggling. Howard Tech has yet to score more than 20 points in a single game this year. The chances of that changing against the Mavericks are slim. Turnovers are key every week, so expect to see more than one Friday night.

If you are looking for a close game, look elsewhere. The Mavs should be seen as heavy favorites in this ballgame, and will likely be victorious by more than twenty points.
