CHS will face Central for homecoming
The Clinton Dragons (1-3, 0-1) look to bounce back from a 35-0 region loss to the Powell Panthers, on Friday.
However, it will not get any easier for the Dragons, as the Central Bobcats (3-2) come to town for and out-of-region clash.
The Dragons’ Head Coach Randy Mckamey will be back on the sideline this week, and has plenty of work to do. The Dragons’ defense is struggling, as opponents have scored a combined 125 points over the past three weeks.
Clinton’s opponents are averaging a ridiculous 237 yards a game through the air and two passing touchdowns this season.
The only case that would be acceptable, is if Clinton was an offensive powerhouse and could outscore their opponents.
So think about this—for the Dragons to be able to counter their opponents passing attack, they must dominate the run game.
Yet, here is the issue, the Dragons average two scores a game on the ground this year, which would match their opponents passing attack.
However, Clinton has only completed 15 passes all season, and scored only once through the air, which means they have nothing to counter their opponents run game, which has not been mentioned yet.
With Clinton’s opponents averaging 2.5 rushing touchdowns a game, the Dragons need to figure out some way to match up.
Unfortunately, matching up with Central will be extremely difficult. The Bobcats are ranked sixth in Class 5A, and ride in on a three-game win streak.
Central features a balanced high powered offense, and their defense has yet to give up 20-plus points this season. The Clinton secondary will once again be tested, and forced to make plays.
Central’s junior quarterback Dakota Fawver likes to sling it. He is 64-of-95 and has already racked up 852 yards through the air this season. The Dragons’ defensive leader, senior safety Cody Parker, will need to keep his head on a swivel all night.
Expect Parker to be tested frequently this Friday.
Also, opponents are 50-percent on third down this year against Clinton.
When possible, the Dragons’ defense needs to get off the field to limit Central’s opportunities.
If the Clinton offense features a healthy Josh Breeden, he and fellow senior Isaiah Washington could be big play threats all night.
Without Breeden, the Dragons are rather one-dimensional.
If they are without him again, Senior quarterback Luke Harrison needs to find a way to get involved, even if it is through his legs.
While picking the Dragons to beat the Bobcats is not advised, look for Clinton to play better than last week.
