One way or another: Mill site on cusp of change

City Manager Roger Houck informed council during Monday evening’s city council meeting that Magnet Mills is scheduled to close on Friday with the new developer. If that does not go through on Friday, the city will follow through with foreclosure proceedings first thing Monday morning.

If all goes as planned and the developer does secure Magnet Mills on Friday, The Courier News will follow up as soon as more information is made available.

Director of Clinton City Schools Kelly Johnson honored two former Clinton Elementary students during Monday night’s city council meeting: 12-year-old sisters Bertie and Macye Farrar.

The sisters were the youngest to be selected as two of the Knoxville News Sentinel’s 20 under 20.

“These are two rising up and coming young ladies,” said Johnson. “They are two wonderful examples of what took place at Clinton Elementary last year.”

Bertie was selected for opening her own baking business — Bertie Bakes — as part of the school’s Clinton Strong project. She specializes in handmade pumpkin and banana bread, chocolate cookies and pastries.

Macy wrote and published a book called “I Met Him at the White House — Not a Love Story.” The book is inspired by her safety patrol trip to Washington, D.C. and is about two friends who solve a mystery.

“These were yearlong projects that allowed them to explore areas they’ve always wanted to explore,” Johnson explained.

The girls are the daughters of Zach and Molly Farrar.

Anderson County High student Grayson Terry, 18, was also selected as one of the 20 under 20 for his custom headlight business 865 Retrofits.
