Christmas tree lighting scheduled for Friday
The Town of Clinton, The Timely Topics Community and Garden Clubs, and the Historic Downtown Clinton Merchants Association will once again present the lighting of the annual Christmas Tree in the Gazebo Park on Market Street, at 5:15 p.m. Nov. 30.
Market Street will be closed to thru traffic from the corner of Main Street to the corner of Cullom Street from 4:00PM to 8:00PM.
Scott Burton, Clinton City Mayor, will be on hand to welcome the town for this annual Christmas tree lighting.
The hometown family group, The Tenos, will be the featured entertainment before the tree lighting. The town is privileged to have the Tenos who are known throughout the state of Tennessee as one of the best family groups who sing and play for churches, group organizations and communities. They have played for the Governor of Tennessee and several other dignitaries.
The Timely Topics, a ladies civic service club, founded in 1934 to discuss current events have been recognized for their efforts in our city.
Timely Topics has supported the town of Clinton with civic projects and established educational scholarships for Clinton High School seniors for many years. They have assisted the city to begin the opening of the Christmas Season with the lighting of the Christmas Tree for over 20 years.
They will serve hot chocolate and cookies from the gazebo before and during the lighting.
Pastor Dave Grant of the St. Mark’s Methodist Church will be telling a Christmas story which will convey to our citizens the true meaning of Christmas .
The Christmas tree lights will be lit at approximately 6:15 p.m.
The Mayor and all the children will shout out the count down for the lights to be lit. There will be ladies to help the children make natural ornaments to hang on the tree.
After the lighting there will be a clogging group, Southern Taps Clogging Company, who will entertain in the street in front of the lighted tree.
For those who would like to bring their cameras there will be several outdoor photo opportunities. One is a decorated Amish Buggy in front of Granny’s Attic and the other will be the city’s antique firetruck which will be decorated and parked on the Christmas tree side of Market Street. Also several of the shops will have setups in their stores to take selfies. There will be a cash prize given by the merchants for the best photo. Starting at 5:15PM, the merchants will give cookies to the shoppers during their cookie crawl. (This where you shop from store to store and sample cookies). The shops on Market Street will be open until 8:00PM.
It is planned to have several food trucks for those who might want to stay and eat after the tree lighting.
