Still time to vote for Ally of the Year

As one of ASAP of Anderson’s largest fundraisers, Ally of the Year has become a fun, competitive race where members of the community, nominated by their peers, compete to be named the Anderson County Ally of the Year. These community members who live, work, or otherwise have a vested interest in what happens in Anderson County compete for the title and raise a greater awareness about ASAP of Anderson’s efforts to prevent and reduce substance misuse among youth and adults in Anderson County.

2019 Ally of the Year candidates are

• Lisa Downard (Oak Ridge Schools Preschool)

• Shelby Haun (Anderson County Schools Preschool)

• Tribby Kelly (Oak Ridge Schools Preschool)

• Rick Meredith (Anderson County Chamber of Commerce)

• Chief Robin Smith (Oak Ridge Police Department)

• Sam Turner (Food City Clinton)

The competition is simple. The candidate with the most votes at the end of the campaign wins. One dollar = One vote. The 2019 Ally of the Year campaign runs Feb. 1 - 25. Voting will close at 5 p.m. Feb. 25. To learn more or to vote for your Ally of the Year candidate, visit www.ASAPofAnderson.org/ally.

The winner will be announced at ASAP’s Annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on March 1st.

All of the proceeds from the Ally of the Year campaign will be used for projects such as:

• Youth Ambassadors Coalition (YAC), supporting adolescents to engage in leadership roles to initiate social change.

• Medication safety and disposal, including lock box programs and naloxone training.

• Responsible Alcohol Sales Training and Age Verification Materials for local businesses.

• Family Drug Treatment Court, named R2: Resilience and Recovery, a comprehensive approach to helping juvenile offenders and their families.

• Implementation of GenerationRx, a curriculum designed to build leadership skills in youth and provides peer to peer education and awareness about the dangers of prescription medications.

• And much more!
