The Anderson County High School Lady Mavericks softball program met a familiar fate in 2019.

Coming off a 26-14 2018 season, where the Lady Mavs fell short of the region tournament, Anderson County fell just short of the region tournament in 2019.

After a fantastic start to the season, April packed a punch. By May, the resiliency of the Lady Mavs had been tested on numerous occasions.

After a 1-0 win over Powell in ten innings, in the district tournament—the Lady Mavs’ first win over the 2018 AAA State Champions in six meetings—Anderson County seemed to peak at just the right time.

However, needing one win to clinch a region tournament berth, the Lady Mavs would suffer consecutive losses and their 2019 season came to an end, with a 27-17 overall record.

Nevertheless, the 2019 softball Lady Mavs featured a lot of leadership and talent.

Leading Anderson County in the circle was Maryville College commit Hannah Bruce.

The all-district pitcher was well-deserving of her accolade, as she finished her Anderson County career impressively.

Bruce started in 32 of the Lady Mavs’ 44 games and pitched a total of 175 innings.

The right-hander finished 2019 with a 17-11 record, and a 1.680 ERA. Bruce struck out an incredible 128 batters, while only walking 48.

Offensively, as a whole, Anderson County definitely had their ups and downs.

Yet, the Lady Mavs finished the year with a .324 average at the plate, a .400 slugging percentage, and 16 dingers.

Leading Anderson County at the dish was all-district, Maryville College commit Emilee Fowler.

Fowler had 61 hits in 134 at-bats, ten of the Lady Mavs’ 16 bombs, and 45 RBIs.

Her .455 batting average and .821 slugging percentage were also team-leading numbers.

The 2019 Lady Mavs played a grueling schedule, and proved to be a very talented program.

Because they only lose three seniors, 2020 should be another good year.
