Arts Crafts Center announces list of fall classes

Appalachian Arts Craft Center in Norris, TN is offering the following art classes in September and October: Burlap Pumpkin Wreath 9/15, Handbuilding with Clay starting 9/18, Stained Glass Lantern 9/19 & 9/20, Create a Lanyard 9/24, Painting a Fall Leaf 9/29, Let’s Build a Kaleidoscope 10/10, Stained Glass Star Suncatcher 10/24, and Intermediate Stained-Glass Panel Class 10/26 & 20/27. Burlap Pumpkin Wreath, with Abby Shedden

Sunday September 15 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM

It’s Fall Y’all!! Spice up your front entrance with a handmade festive burlap pumpkin wreath. Earlybird cost: $35 members, $45 nonmembers. After September 16, cost: $45/ $55. Materials fee to be paid to teacher day of class: $30

Handbuilding with Clay, with Janet McCracken

Wednesdays starting September 18 concluding October 23

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (6 sessions)

Students will learn the basics of creating forms out of clay covering pinch pots, the slab roller, coil pots, creating textures and more! This class is suitable for those who have never taken a class in clay and for those with some clay experience. Earlybird Cost: $80 members, $90 nonmembers. After September 4, Cost: $90/$100. All students must also pay a $30 studio fee to the Pottery Department on the first day for clay, glaze and firing. $40 for bags of clay thereafter. Registration deadline: September 11



Stained Glass Lantern with Mary Lee Keeler

Thursday & Friday September 19 & 20 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Students will use the copper foil technique to create a stained-glass panel insert to fit into the door of a lantern. Instructor will provide a black metal lantern and students will have 4 patterns to select from. Students will prepare a pattern, cut glass, grind glass to fit, copper foil and soldering as a part of the process. Earlybird Cost: $115 members, $125 nonmembers. After September 5 Cost: $125/$135. All students must also pay a $25 material fee (cash/check) to the instructor at the beginning of the class. Registration deadline: September 12.



Create a Lanyard with the Tuesday Weavers

Tuesday, September 24, 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM

Create a custom lanyard on the inkle loom! Students will choose their own colors and learn the process from start to finish. All materials will be provided. No experience required. Registration Cost: $30 members, $40 nonmembers. Registration deadline: September 21.



Painting a Fall Leaf, with Melanie Fetterolf

Sunday, September 29 2:00 PM – 5:30 PM

All skill levels are invited to come create a fall leaf painting. Melanie will guide students to create an acrylic on canvas painting using a variety of brushes and painting techniques. All supplies are included.

Early Bird Fee: $35 for Members, $45 for nonmembers. After September 15 Fee: $45/$55 Registration deadline: September 22.



Let’s Build a Kaleidoscope, with Bob Grimac,

Thursday October 10, 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM

The kaleidoscope has been delighting viewers since its invention by David Brewster, a Scottish physicist, back in 1816. Smiling students will leave this workshop with a sturdy, 12-inch tube, filled with real glass, real mirrors, and lots of colors, inside and out! The class is open to students age 10 and up (but younger students welcomed with teen or adult supervision). This class will be a good parent or grandparent/child activity. Students are encouraged to bring a lunch. AACC Members: $30 for one student or $55 for two students in the same household. Non-Members $40 for one



Stained Glass Star Suncatcher with Mary Lee Keeler

Thursday October 24 10:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Students will use the copper foil technique to create a 6-inch stained glass star/snowflake suncatcher! Students will prepare a pattern, cut glass, grind glass to fit, copper foil and soldering as a part of the process. Earlybird Cost: $50 members, $60 nonmembers. After October 10 Cost: $60/$70. All students must also pay a $15 material fee (cash/check) to the instructor at the beginning of the class. Registration deadline: October 17.



Intermediate Stained-Glass Panel Class with Mary Lee Keeler

Sat. October 26 & Sun. October 27 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Can you cut glass, grind glass to fit pattern, apply copper foil, solder? This is an intermediate class for folks with some experience. This class will refresh you on the all those copper foil techniques! You will create a panel that has rigid zinc framing with hooks and chain. You will choose your pattern in advance – there are several to choose from! Your materials fee will cover cost of consumables including – copper foil, patina, wax, cleaning supplies, flux, Solder, Zinc channel framing material, Wire hangers, chain, pattern copies, gloves, etc. Long pants and comfortable closed toe shoes required. Experience Required! Earlybird Cost: $160 members, $170 nonmembers. After September 24 Cost: $170/$180. All students must also pay a material fee (cash/check) to the instructor at the beginning of the class.
