TVA begins sampling near Bull Run
TVA has been setting up heavy equipment in Claxton Community Park next to its Bull Run Fossil Plant.
TVA is conducting soil sampling and installing permanent monitors at the park as part of an ongoing environmental investigation in cooperation with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). This is happening at all sites in Tennessee where TVA stores coal combustion residuals, commonly known as coal ash, including Bull Run.
The work at the park involves soil sampling and installing monitors to study groundwater flow below the property. TVA will be installing two monitors known as peziometers at the park.
Work began Sept. 16 and should last around 3 - 6 weeks. The public may see equipment including trucks and mounted drill rigs in the park during that time. The work may affect access to the main road into the community center. TVA has made improvements to the secondary driveway to the center to provide access to the property.
