You can give hope through donations

EDITOR:

Your end-of-the-year financial donation can help make a big difference for Ecumenical Storehouse, the organization best known for seeking donations of household items for distribution to people in need.

But what many don’t know is that financial contributions are always greatly appreciated by the nonprofit, all-volunteer organization to help pay for operating expenses and for scarce items particularly in need, such as heaters and blankets during cold weather.

Many of the clients served are from among the vast number of Appalachian poor in the area; others have lost everything in fires or natural disasters; others were formerly in abusive situations and need emergency assistance.

Clients served are from Anderson and surrounding counties and are referred to the Storehouse by various social service agencies and churches.

Volunteers from 12 churches rotate times picking up household donations, helping clients in the Storehouse, and managing and serving on the Board of Directors. The Storehouse is a member of the United Way of Anderson County.

For 35 years, the only circumstance that people helped by the Ecumenical Storehouse Ministry share is that they all have no other place to turn for help in getting needed items to set up in safe living quarters.

While the final numbers of those served have not been tallied for 2019, last year the Storehouse served 487 families, (comprising 798 adults and 675 children) during 815 visits.

Together with your donations of useable household items and financial support, we can continue to help people make a home during their time of greatest need.

Financial contributions can be mailed to Ecumenical Storehouse at P. O. Box 7057, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-7057.

It is located at 134 East Division Road in Oak Ridge.
