ASAP’s 50/50 Raffle is underway

Winner will be chosen July 18

ASAP of Anderson is encouraging the public to purchase $5 tickets for its signature 50/50 Raffle which raises awareness and funds for substance-abuse prevention efforts in Anderson County.

In past years, ASAP has launched the annual campaign in the summer and hosted the drawing at the Anderson County Fair, but due to the COVID-19 crisis, ASAP has adapted and made online ticket sales available a month early.

First prize will receive half of the proceeds collected from the raffle, second prize will win a 65-inch TV, third prize wins a Yeti cooler, fourth prize wins a Downtown Clinton salon and shop package, and fifth prize wins a month-long membership to Clinch Valley CrossFit.

Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased through July 18 at asapofanderson.org/raffle/.

The drawing will take place at 10 p.m. July 18 — either in person at the Anderson County Fair or virtually pending recommendations from public health officials.

If possible, the booth at the fair will highlight the #IAMONE campaign, which encourages people to say, “I AM ONE who will not drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

Through the support of the Tennessee Highway Safety Office, ASAP volunteers plan to guide participants through fatal-vision activities, share information through social media and a selfie station, and sell raffle tickets.

Funds raised through the 50/50 Raffle are used for activities, programs, and events related to substance-abuse prevention including:

• I AM ONE campaign, which aims to reduce underage drinking and increase awareness of Tennessee’s Social Host Liability Law.

• Youth Ambassadors Coalition (YAC) at all three high schools and a number of middle schools in the county.

• Count It! Lock It! Drop It!, which encourages community members to count their medications and provides home medicine lockboxes to community members and permanent medicine disposal bins at local police departments

• GenerationRx, an education and awareness curriculum aimed at teaching youth and adults about the dangers of prescription medications

• And much, much, more.
