Nearly 7,000 cast early ballots
Anderson Countians cast 6,927 early voting ballots from July 17 through Aug. 1, the Anderson County Election Commission reported.
Of those, 4,574 voted in the Republican Primary, and 2,316 in the Democratic Primary.
Paper ballots accounted for 1,512 votes cast; there were 1,366 via mail-in ballot and 146 from nursing homes.
The Oak Ridge precinct at Midtown Community Center saw 2,397 voters; the Clinton precinct at the Anderson County Fair Building saw 1,844 people cast early ballots; and the Anderson County Government Building in the Anderson Crossing center at the junction of Andersonville Highway and U.S. 441 recorded 1,174 early votes.
The Anderson County State Primary and General Election is Thursday, Aug. 6. Polls will open at 9 a.m. Anderson County uses a no-touch voting system; every voter is given an ink pen to use as a stylus while casting their vote.
The Anderson County Election Commission does not require protective masks to vote, but everyone who votes in person Thursday is urged to take precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic, including wearing a mask to polling places.
