Much ado about nothing: Talk, but little information and no action on crematory
Clinton Board of Zoning Appeals deferred any action (or non-action) it might take on a proposed crematory at the location of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.
There may be questions, but in reality there is no action the board can take. Board members noted that the property is zoned correctly and funeral homes are allowed to maintain crematories.
Board member Larry Gann told the rest of the board that it was his understanding the proposed crematory would have “no smoke, no smell.”
It was also pointed out that there is nothing in state regulations to prevent a funeral home from operating a crematory.
There was some question about which state agency regulates funeral homes.
And while there is little or no action the board might take, there were still questions to be asked and since no representative of the funeral home was present at Monday’s meeting the item was deferred until the board’s January meeting.
