Blaze end season on a high note

The Clinton Blaze and Lady Blaze closed out their 2020-2021 season by salvaging a split against 5U Impact Thursday night at home.

The Blaze prevailed 60-34 while the Lady Blaze came up on the short end of a 32-23 decision.

Clinton’s boys close the campaign with a 9-1 record while the girls end the season at 4-6.

In the boys game, the Blaze set an all-time single-game record for points.

Drayton Wade had 15 points and nine rebounds for Clinton. Kaden Webber also had 15 points along with four steals. Jaylon Daniels scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

In the girls game, Abby Phillips scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds. Topanga Easterday scored eight points and had nine steals and Callie Johnson finished the season finale with four points.

Blaze Free Throw Records Fall: The Blaze and Lady Blaze both now have single-season free throw records. Phillips made 20 foul shots this season for the Lady Blaze while Webber converted 18 for the Clinton boys.

Blaze swim season: Clinton City Schools athletics director E. T. Stamey said that the Blaze and Lady Blaze swim teams are slated to begin the 2021 season in January. Meets will be held at the Clinton Community Center.

Stamey said that he’s hoping to partner the Blaze swim team with Clinton Middle School in an effort for the Blaze to compete in more meets.

Tryouts for the 2021 season will be held on Jan. 25 for student-athletes in fourth, fifth and sixth grades.

Blaze Dance Team: The Blaze dance team has been announced. Members include: Grace Wilson; Maggie Turbiville; MacKenzie Sharp; Sean Fuhr; Marie Bautista; Nevaeh Fuller; Amilia Grainger; Kaylin Phillips; Lilly Marvin; Ariana Duncan; Bella Hobbs-Swenson; Lisa Dawson; Abigail Bennett; Layla Feinstein; Charlie Riggs; Miranda Childs; Reece Hollifield; Jailah Fritts; Anime Fox; Addi Herrell; Angel Wagner; Maleah Breeden; Peyton Skaggs; Addyson Kidwell and Maisen Sharp.

Archery: Stamey said that he plans on beginning an archery class for the 2020-2021 academic year. It will be part of the academic curriculum.

The Blaze will field an archery team soon.

Track season: The Blaze and Lady Blaze track and field athletes look to begin their season in March.

The Blaze Bowling League will continue to take place in the spring at the Clinton Community Center.

Blaze and Lady Blaze continue to get community support; Stamey said that fundraising for the athletic program continues to flourish despite financial hardship caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
