Justice Matters
I am excited to have this opportunity to discuss our common concerns about justice, public safety, crime, addiction, and other issues that play such a vital part in our community and everyday lives.
It is probably true that in some way these issues touch every family in Anderson County; either directly or indirectly.
The Clinton Courier News has a proud history of keeping us informed to make our lives and community better.
This column gratefully begins hoping to make a small contribution to that continuing legacy by discussing these issues that affect so many of us.
As your district attorney general for the past 15 years, I have been privileged to exercise a role on your behalf in these matters.
Hopefully, some of the lessons learned and observations will not only be interesting but also helpful.
The more people that are aware, engaged or even helping makes us all safer and our community better. So, it is hoped that this column will help provide information that will allow readers to be better informed on criminal justice matters.
Informed and engaged citizens often have new and creative ideas. These ideas can be very valuable to those of us who work in the criminal justice system such as lawyers, judges, police officers and the like.
Our local leaders have a willingness to look at new ideas for improvement and a demonstrated ability to work together to implement them. So, as we take this journey together, I hope that we will start discussions.
There is always room for improvement and we value the ideas of readers!
We will begin with a series about the most common illegal drugs in our community.
We will take an in depth look at cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and prescription pills, with a particular emphasis on local issues.
