In praise of volunteers
Tennessee Fire Marshal’s Office visits Marlow Fire Department
Marlow Volunteer Fire Department and its volunteer firefighters were honored last week by the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office for their work to keep the department up and running during the worst of the coronavirus pandemic.
Officials from the Fire Marshal’s Office, part of the state Department of Commerce and Insurance, brought snacks, drinks and cleaning supplies to the Marlow fire station, and met with Fire Chief Stephanie Fox “to show appreciation for the fire department’s contributions to public safety during the pandemic,” said Gary Farley, assistant commissioner for fire prevention.
Farley was joined by Department of Commerce and Insurance senior advisor Jim Tracy and other representatives from the state to deliver the supplies and ask Fox what the state might be able to do to help the Marlow Fire Department.
Chief Fox said she hopes the state will continue to offer relevant and convenient training opportunities for the Marlow firefighters, and help support the department in other ways – including grants to help pay for new fire trucks and other equipment.
Anderson County Mayor Terry Frank also attended the presentation, and said how much she and other county officials appreciate the work that the volunteers at Marlow and other Anderson County fire departments do for no pay.
The Fire Marshal’s Office is visiting numerous volunteer departments across the state this month as part of “outreach events” to “support the work of Tennessee fire departments and essential workers,” a news release said.
Marlow Volunteer Fire Department is at 1019 Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton, and serves the Marlow community and surrounding area with around-the-clock fire protection services.
Non-paid volunteers make up the entire staff of the department, and give their time on behalf of their neighbors and community.
