Chancellor Nicki Cantrell to seek re-election in 2022

Chancellor Nicki Cantrell announced her intention this week to seek the Republican nomination for chancellor in the May 2022 primary for another eight-year as Anderson County chancellor.

Cantrell was first elected in 2014 after a distinguished career in law with the firm of Cantrell and Cantrell.

She has adjudicated thousands of cases ranging from divorces to child support during her eight-year term as chancellor.

In 2021 alone, Anderson County Chancery Court has heard more than 1,200 cases that include child support and orders of protection, in addition to divorces.

Cantrell has aggressively met the challenges of an increasing caseload during difficult times, a news release said, prioritizing emergency cases and focusing on the needs of families and children during the recent COVID restrictions.

Cantrell commented on the impact of COVID on the courts: “Utilizing Zoom and other internet resources we have been able to expedite cases while meeting our number one goal of keeping everyone safe. Our staff is committed to meeting the challenges ahead and embracing all necessary resources to maintain a safe and efficient docket.”

Cantrell is a lifetime resident of Anderson County.

The daughter of Judy Caudill and Jack Black, Cantrell is the first woman to ever be elected to serve as Anderson County chancellor.

A graduate of Norris Middle School, and Anderson County High School in 1992, Cantrell was valedictorian of her high school senior class.

Cantrell attended the University of Tennessee as a Whittle Scholar, graduating with a bachelor of science degree with a major in both biology and zoology.

She where she graduated magna cum laude.

After graduation. Cantrell attended the University of Tennessee College of Law graduating in 2003.

She worked in Clinton with Cantrell and Cantrell for 13 years before being elected chancellor.

Cantrell is the mother of two, Benjamin, 22, and Erin 17.

She lives in Andersonville.
