Christmas 1933 event was a great success

Hosting the event were Ann Lesar and Bonnie Peacock, dressed in 1930s attire.
The “Christmas 1933” event held at the Norris Museum last weekend was one of the most successful events that has ever taken place there, according to museum officials.

Not only were there visitors from Norris, but also from Clinton, Andersonville, Oak Ridge and Knoxville. All age groups enjoyed the re-creation of an old-time Norris Christmas. One lady in her 80s was thrilled when she discovered her home’s original house plans from 1933.

Visitors also enjoyed the display of 1930s cars furnished by the Clinton Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Knoxville Smoky Mountain Antique Car Club.

“We were so pleased with our great turnout,” said Ann Lesar, president of the Norris Historical Society and event organizer. “Not only did we have a large attendance, but we set a record on the dollar amount of museum souvenir items purchased. Our visitors seemed to really enjoy themselves. By any measure, it was a success.”

According to Lesar, the event attracted quite a few longtime Norris residents. “We learned so much, first hand, of how it was to live in Norris long ago. It was fascinating,” she said.
