It’s been an amazing run for Sarah Burton

Sarah Burton capped off an amazing high school basketball career by being named a Miss Basketball finalist in her senior year at Clinton High School.
Clinton High School senior Sarah Burton was honored at the recent BlueCross Basketball Championship in Murfreesboro for being selected as a finalist for Miss Basketball, Class 3A.

Burton finished her high school career with 2,129 points and 576 rebounds.

She missed part of her freshman season with an injury, and much of the 2020 season was washed out due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In all, she missed almost a season’s worth of games.

With an average of 25 points a game for her career, Burton had a chance to rack up 3,000 career points.

In her senior season Burton scored 650 points, averaged 25 points a game, averaged eight rebounds a game, averaged 3.1 assists a game, and averaged 2.5 steals a game.

She recorded eight double doubles in her senior campaign.

She shot 50-percent from the floor (two-point) and 32-perecent from beyond the arc (three-point), while hitting 82-perecnt from the free throw line.

Burton holds the all-time leading scorer record at Clinton High, as well as most points in a single game — 54 — which she broke her own record three time. She also holds most points in a single season with 767 during her sophomore year, and tied the record for number of steals in a single game with 11, also her sophomore year.

Along with her Miss Basketball finalists honor, she’s been named All-District three times; All-District Tournament three times; and been named District Player of the Year.

Burton had offers from 10 schools and eventually signed with the University Virginia-Wise.

Burton plays three sports at Clinton: Basketball, soccer and softball. She was named Keeper of the Year this last fall for the Lady Dragon soccer team, as well as being named to the All-District and All-Region team.

She is also an All-District softball player.

Burton carries a 4.03 GPA at Clinton High School.
