Sandy Casey of Oliver Springs will challenge Fleischmann
Casey lives in Oliver Springs and formally announced her candidacy in September.
Since that time, she has been attending county and civic events, making her reasons for running known.
She has been frustrated at a lack of conservative representation and communication when addressing her representative, she said, adding that she decided to take matters into her own hands.
Casey has three main reasons for running, she said.
First, she believes in term limits. She is taking action to challenge an entrenched incumbent, but said she hopes that voters will be courageous enough to vote for a true conservative candidate in August’s primary. She doesn’t have a voting record but has promised never to vote for a continuing resolution or raise the debt ceiling.
Next, she is tired of unconstitutional spending, she said, adding that she believes there are programs and entire agencies that should no longer exist.
“This whole mess started 100 years ago with progressives of both parties abdicating their responsibilities to the administrative agencies, the same agencies which burden businesses beyond reason,” she said. She that the practice of voting for “a continuing resolution or to raise the debt ceiling” indicate a failure of Congress to do its job.
“Finally, we as family, friends, teachers, medical professionals and neighbors are all expected to be aware of signs of domestic abuse in people we encounter daily,” she said. “Yet, our nation, as a macrocosm of our neighborhood, is being abused daily by the federal government and it must stop. The fiscal abuse is easily seen, which is causing stress- the mental abuse. The emotion, physical and sexual abuse is beyond measure. It must stop. Since we are not going to leave our families and neighborhoods, we must remove the abusers from their positions of power.”
